What is D-Mannose, and how does it support urinary health?

D-Mannose is a naturally occurring simple sugar, closely related to glucose, found in fruits like cranberries, apples and oranges. Unlike table sugar, very little of it is metabolised for energy — most passes through the body and is excreted in urine, which is exactly why it's become a staple for urinary wellness.

How D-Mannose works

The theory is elegantly simple. Certain bacteria rely on tiny finger-like projections to cling to the wall of the urinary tract. D-Mannose is thought to bind to those projections, so instead of sticking, the bacteria are flushed away naturally.

How to take it

  • Best taken with plenty of water through the day.
  • Consistency matters more than a single large dose.
  • Pairs well with cranberry extract, which many formulas combine it with.
SatyaTerra's Urinary Wellness effervescent combines D-Mannose with Salvia officinalis and cranberry — one tablet in 200ml of water.

As always, this is general information, not medical advice — if you have recurring concerns, speak with your doctor.
